Influencer Case Study for Alexandria Massage Therapy: A 6-Month Review

Small businesses are the backbone of our communities, but many struggle to use social media as an effective tool to reach their ideal local audience. Over the last six months, we tested a social media influencer strategy for a massage therapy and wellness center in Alexandria, Virginia.
The goal of this campaign was to reach ideal potential customers, who were not yet following the account, through strategic local partnerships. Between January 1st, 2026, and July 1st, 2026, we measured follower growth, audience alignment, and non-follower reach. Our team at Faith Wachter Consulting researched, set up, and monitored approximately one collaboration per month. Here are the results.
The Social Media Influencer Strategy
Any content marketing campaign is only as successful as its strategy. To set Alexandria Massage Therapy (AMT) up for success, we first defined our goal: to grow our online audience with local, ideal clients. We then researched the accounts that our ideal audience was already interacting with and following, and whose wellness missions aligned with AMT’s.
Our community management team built relationships with accounts we knew our ideal audience trusted. These weren’t “typical” influencers; instead, we targeted local small businesses, micro-influencers, local clubs, and influential community members. These small, highly aligned collaborations are often more cost-effective and yield better results for small businesses than large influencers, who may offer wider reach but a mismatch of audiences.
Once we identified the correct accounts, we managed the collaborations on our client’s behalf. This included defining deliverables, monitoring timelines, accepting collaborations, reposting stories, replying to comments, and triaging booking requests.
The Social Media Influencer Campaign Results
While we saw improvements across all metrics, we focused primarily on non-follower reach (top-of-funnel brand awareness) and follower growth (bottom-of-funnel decision stage).
Brand Awareness: Non-Follower Reach
Over six months, our strategic collaboration posts garnered, on average, 812% higher reach than our standard posts, with 80% of that reach coming from non-followers. Overall, we reached 15,884 accounts across the region.
One local collaboration with Fifty Two Thursdays (two digital creators local to DC who focus on lifestyle content) garnered 5,815 views, reaching 97.9% non-followers.
A close second was Dr. Megan Brown, a local micro-influencer and pilates instructor with roughly 7,000 followers at the time. She isn’t an “influencer” in the traditional sense, but rather an established online presence who shares our ideal audience. Her business is a perfect complement to ours; pilates and massage therapy are a natural pairing! Her reel garnered 4,584 views, reaching 94.6% non-followers. Notably, the reach for both accounts was concentrated in Alexandria, VA, and the surrounding areas.
This level of hyper-local reach is exceptional for small accounts. Over 15,000 people now know our client’s brand, making them far more likely to choose AMT when looking for services. This is just the beginning; we also saw significant follower growth and profile visits from these collaborations.
Bottom of Funnel: Follower Growth
Our second goal was to grow our following among local, ideal audience members. Over the six-month period, we grew the client’s follower base by over 20%. Even better, these new followers were our exact target demographic: the largest segment is located in Alexandria, and 62% of our audience is between the ages of 34 and 54.
During the Dr. Megan Brown collaboration, we noticed a large spike in followers on April 3rd, the exact date Dr. Brown posted her story from inside the AMT sauna. These followers were all local, ideal-audience members.
Over this same period, we garnered 2,820 profile views. These views indicate genuine interest, whether that means booking through the link, messaging us to ask a question, or looking up contact information. We noticed direct spikes in profile visits from these local collaborations; for example, Fifty Two Thursdays brought in 172 profile visits from one reel, and Dr. Megan Brown brought in 116. All these numbers are the direct result of our strategy.

- Non-Follower Reach: We reached 15,884 accounts across the local region, with 80% of that audience being new, non-followers.
- Follower Growth: We achieved over 20% growth in local, ideal-audience followers.
We accomplished this thanks to our team of experts, who bring over 35 years of collective experience. Our full-service social media management clients gain a dedicated team to facilitate these strategic collaborations. During this campaign, our strategist built the plan, our account manager coordinated the partnerships, and our community manager handled all relationship-building and audience engagement. Meanwhile, the social media manager backed up the collaborations with consistent, supporting content.
Our account manager worked closely with the client’s existing marketing efforts. The result?
